The Digital Design Manager will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day workings and strategic application and deployment of all Architectural Design softwares, including (but not limited to) AutoCAD, Revit (BIM) & Rhino. This involves supporting users in the production of project information including drawings, models, schedules and presentation work associated with the design and delivery of projects across the architecture, yacht and aviation studios at Winch Design.
The Digital Design Manager will be expected to assist the project teams by advising on technical design workflows, information production, coordination and application upskilling throughout the project lifecycle and this role presents a unique opportunity to take ownership of and develop CAD and BIM design processes across the practice, in addition to setting up templates & standards for the various software applications.
The Digital Design Manager will report into the Design Partners with some coordination expected with the IT team. Interaction with external consultants and outsourced freelancers is also required. The role requires excellent listening and questioning skills, combined with the ability to interact confidently with individuals to establish what the problem is and explain the solution in simple terms. A strong focus on customer service and satisfaction is essential, along with an outstanding attention to detail.
Key responsibilities and deliverables
- Oversee digital design software strategy and implementation, manage our internal digital software group and work closely with external consultants and IT support
- Promote standardisation and consistency of project set up, data sets and information production across the practice and develop and document project execution plans
- Working with the design teams to ensure all digital output complies with company standards, with regular monitoring and auditing of projects to ensure an efficient workflow
- Work with the visualisation team to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow
- Undertake clash detection exercises, assist in complex modelling interfaces and elements as required
- Provide digital software support to the studio including CAD/BIM conversions, formats and information exchange
- Train and mentor design staff by leading technical inductions for all new staff, ensuring thorough knowledge of standards, CAD/BIM and project procedures
- Advise on and help develop project information management tools
- Help identify and resolve inefficiencies in existing project information production workflows
- Identify software skills gaps and training requirements, develop and deliver training and mentoring programs and prepare training documentation for the internal ‘’Knowledge Base’’
- Manage CAD and BIM software licenses and support contracts to ensure license compliance, engage with software vendors auditing requirements in coordination with the IT manager
- First point of contact and resolution for all CAD, Revit, Rhino support queries
- Liaise with and escalate support issues to 3rd party software vendors as required
- Manage the CAD/BIM software budget in coordination with the Head of IT
- Advise on security and data integrity when sharing and issuing information
- Liaise with external project design teams to co-ordinate deliverables
Required skills and experience
- Previous experience within an architectural and high-end interior design practice as a Digital Design Manager is essential
- Expert knowledge of 2D/3D AutoCAD and Revit, plus good working knowledge of the following applications (but not limited to), Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Suite (specifically InDesign & Photoshop), Grasshopper & Sketchup and deployment and customisation of all the above
- BIM experience on large scale projects in Autodesk Revit and associated technologies with a minimum of 5 years' experience of using Revit on design/construction projects
- Experience in auditing and reviewing models in AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino & Cloud platforms e.g. BIM 360 Design
- Experience of working in a project coordination role for design systems, project level CAD/BIM coordination and the management of CAD/BIM workflows
- Knowledge of ISO 19650
- Able to manage sensitive and confidential information
- Knowledge of construction documentation, processes and procedures, and an understanding of streamlining output from design software to design presentation software i.e. Adobe Creative Suite
- Understanding the needs of different design groups, such as architecture or interiors with regards to types of drawing information and their individual graphic requirements and designing appropriate workflows and templates that respond to those needs
- Advanced PC skills, specifically Microsoft Office and Adobe applications

- The expectation is that this role will be primarily office based, with 1 day flexible
Remuneration and benefits
- Competitive salary available depending on level of experience (6-month probation)
- Hours 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday
